Independent Graphic Designers

Indpendent Graphic Design

JK Design

This is the website for JK Designs, a small business run by six graphic designers. I instantly like this website due to the humor they've added to it showing images of them smiling/laughing and including funny facts like how many coffees they go through a day. Their website is nice and simplistic, this makes it easier to navigate through and you aren't attacked with loads of text as soon as you enter the site. It also has a lot of nice photography, this makes the website more interesting to look at.

Lee Mason Design

This website is for Lee Mason Designs. I like the overall layout of the website, the nice use of imagery being the focal point of the website as soon as you enter, it flicks through recent works by the designer. Its also nice simple and easy to you, you can navigate through the site so easily with no issues at all.

Web Project

Bad Website Analysis

www.drivingskills.on.ca - This website is terrible. The background is horrendous, then the fact that the image is tiled over and over is stupid. The text is just a blur of different colours, italics, bold and underlined. The images are either irrelevant or pixelated. Some of the text is also moving and flashing which just makes the whole website hard to read and annoying.
www.sfp8.com - This website isn't as bad as the previous one but its just so dull and boring you almost cant be bothered to read it. This one isn't technically awful, its just as though there's being a half hearted effort put into it.

http://www.msy.com.au/ - This website is overly crammed full of adverts or horrible little squares of information. There seems to be no attempt at organizing the information besides cramming as much as they could into one webpage. I think the designer has a particular liking for white on red as that seems to be all he wants to do.

Good Websites

H.G Esch

I found H.G Eschs' work through Frieze magazine. His photography ranges from Commissioned work for Films and Interior Architecture to Free works in Mega cities like New York and Singapore.I love the wide variety of photography he does and the fact he hasn't stuck to one specific style of photography.

Carpet Concepts - Munchenbernsdorf, 2009.  I really like the composition and symmetry of this piece of photography. Its very pleasing to the eye.

Unknown City. This picture is interesting to look at because it makes the huge city looking small and insignificant somehow. With the low fog also smothering

Brighton Trip

On Friday the 20th of September as a class we visited Brighton. Primarily, to visit the Brighton Art Fair and the Jon Burgerman exhibition. I really enjoyed some of the work at the Art Fair, it was interesting to see all these different materials, techniques and processes that people use. I liked alot of the photography at the fair too, there weren't a huge amount but i thought the photos were incredible. Jon Burgermans style is interesting because of the doodle style and because its so jam packed full of illustration. We also visited the Brighton Letterpress "Magpie" shop. Some stuff in this shop dated back hundreds of years and it was very interesting to see.

I really like the doodle style of Burgermans work. The wide range of colours helps to bring this particular piece alive. The thing i like about his work is being able to look at it for awhile because of how much is going on.
Woodblocks at the Magpie shop.
A piece of work i particularly liked from the Brighton Art Fair.

Brick Lane

BRICK LANE London

Brick Lane holds some of the best and most interesting street art in London. You can see work from street artists such as Shepard Fairey, Banksy and Space Invader. It also has street art from up and coming artists like Otto Schade.

Unknown Artist.

A piece by Otto Schade.

D&AD: New Blood Exhibition

D&AD: New Blood Exhibition

On July 4th 2013 we visited the D&AD New Blood Exhibition in Brick Lane, London. Here we could see work from various universities and colleges from around the UK. Seeing all this work was extremely inspiring and motivating. It gave me a good idea into what levels i need to reach before uni. It was also a great opportunity to look at what University/College would be best for me and suits my interests the most.

One of my favourite pieces of work from the University of Greenwich, this is by Cristina Carinhas.

This is a poster designed by Gurtekh Singh from Sheffield Hallam Uni.
